30p or 60i?

okay, i'm confused why a dvx even shoots in 60i when there is 30p. Why shoot in 60i when you can shoot in 30p? Also if i shot in 30p and then just slowed the framerate down to 24 frames in post, would it look the same as the in-camera 24p?

thanks!

Inoran:
With 60i you can use autofocus and gain up to 18db.
In 30p or 24p you have to manual focus and you lose like one stop of
light vs 60i.

Also 60i gives you more fluent look video....60p is even better...
I hope that in the coming DVX-100c they will implement 480/60p...

I've read that in the DVX-100a and b you can use gain in progressive mode but not in the original DVX-100.

Also you have to edit 24p and 30p with diferrent parameters than 60i for DVD
output.

Not True.

Also Not True. Only time you have to change editing setups is with 24PA (advanced).

Probably my DVX-100 is defective because DOES NOT AUTOFOCUS in any progressive mode.

I have AL7.1 and I cannot edit 24p.
I also have Vegas 6...and I can edit 24p but I have to set DIFFERENT
settings of 60i editing.

Read this article about NTSC use with progressive sources.
THE EVEN FIELD OF THE FRAME IS TRANSMITED FIRST...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NTSC

In AL7 you have to set your timeline in NON INTERLACED.

In Vegas when you make your DVD for 24p playback the software
puts "flags" that the DVD player can read and then play correctly
the video.

Those are the "diferent" parameters that I am talking about.

thanks for the inquiry. However despite slight loss of light, it still seems like 30p is nicer over 60i.

However my biggest question is still, if anybody has shot in 30p and then slowed it to 24 frames and if so did it still look good? Is there any light gain from 24p to 30p or are they the same?

If i shoot in 24p and want slowmotion, 30p seems like a much better option over 60i, because of the better resolution and more of a consistant look. I'm just really surprised that there was no default preset for 30p.
