30p on HVX E suitable for US-standard?

Unfortunately at the moment you are buying your HVX you have to decide if you get one for the 24p/30p/60i world or for the european 25p/50p standard. For most of us that does not represent any problem. But for me the possibility to be able to deliver to both worlds would be useful. Maybe there is a solution: The european version of the HVX provides 30p. This derives two questions for me:

1. Can I shoot on a european HVX 30p with audio and edit the material in post identically as I would do with 30p material shot with a US-version?

2. IF it works: How does 30p look like, would it be a suitable format for documentaries for example?

I love the look of 30p but it can be very problematic to transfer. I have not messed with a Pal HVX, didnt even know it could do 30p. Is it playing back 30p at 25p? Meaning slowing it down? 30P is a MAJOR pain in the but to get to 50i PAL... and looks pretty poor most the time.

ash =o)

Probably it is playing back 30p at 25p but I don´t know. Maybe there is a workaround. But when it´s possible and you shoot 30p certainly you´re stuck to 30p and can´t convert it to 50i without a lot of loss.

30P on the PAL camera is actually 29.76 fps.

480i30 in NTSC is approximately 29.97fps

So if you speed up your footage 0.706%, you'll be almost there. Of course you'll need to sync with externally recorded sound.

I use Final Cut, but I don't know how good Cinema Tools is at dealing with with 29.76 fps footage.

Is even 25p really 25.00 fps in pal-hvx?
Yes, 25 is 25.000.

In the NTSC unit the frame rates are also approximate; 24 = 23.976 and 30 = 29.97 and 60 = 59.94 but the other frame rates are ever so slightly off from their nominal frame rates.

There is no 30p. neither 720/30p nor 1080/30p provided on the PAL HVX200E.
no but in 720pn there are frame rates of: 12/18/20/23/25/27/30/32/37/48/50.

as pointed out the are not exact except for the 25 and 50.
the 30 is actually 29.76
