30p on a 60i time line

Is there any drawback to doing this? I figure that if the camera is printing it to tape @ 60I, I could just import the footage into Vegas on a 60I time line and get the benifit of 30p motion.

Is this a bad thing? Artifacts? One other reason for this is because I have some footage shot in 30p and 60I for the same event.

I forgot to mention that after editing I was going to print back to tape. I'm not expecting progressive output. just the look.
Is this a bad thing?

Thanks.

Re: 30p on a 60i time line

There's nothing wrong with editing 30P in a 60i timeline. 30P can be cut perfectly in a 60i timeline; the only difference may come when you add effects or transitions, as the editing program will make those interlaced. You can change the preset to be progressive-scan though and eliminate all possibility of interlace appearing in your project.

Re: 30p on a 60i time line

Just choose the NTSC DV preset, and then go to "project properties" and there you'll see an option for field order, you'd change it to "none: progressive scan".

Re: 30p on a 60i time line

What about the 60i footage that is on the same time line?
I shot in 30p for half of the fottage but I could'nt keep up with the action as far as focus goes, so I switched to 60i for auto focus.

Something tells me I may have made alot of work for myself.........

Re: 30p on a 60i time line

If you're mixing 30P and 60i on the same timeline, just use the normal "NTSC DV" preset. The 30P will look different from the 60i footage. You can get them to look more similar by de-interlacing the 60i footage.

Re: 30p on a 60i time line

Okay, I give up. How do I de-interlace the 60i video to get them to match up better? I searched but found everything but that.
Thanks for being patient with the novice.
