30p and shiny objects

I shot some footage for a local jewelry store on saturday using 30p. I brought a monitor with me to check my shots and after shooting some slow panning of the jewelery cases locked down on a tripod, I checked my work.

I was surprised at how much flicker/ jitter I was getting so I ended up switching to 60i and re-shooting. The 60i came out very nice and all is well.
My question is , Is this inherent with shiny stuff like jewelry in progressive modes? If I really really slowed my panning in 30p it wasn't that bad. But it wouldn't flow with the up beat music very well so I made the switch.

what are your thoughts on this guys?

Re: 30p and shiny objects

The slower the frame rate, the slower you have to pan to avoid stutter. Has nothing to do with shiny stuff, it has to do with the selection of 30P. The stuttering is worse in 24P because the frame rate is even slower.

Re: 30p and shiny objects

If you go for progressive thin mode and playback on an interlaced display(TV), you will get strong line twitter, because shiny object show sharp vertical (and horizontal) edges. Go for thick mode (vertical lowpass filtering) in case you playback interlaced
