I know your the man Michael so I wanted to see what you would recommend in terms of workflow for a project that will be using 30i and 24p footage shot with my DVX100a on the same timeline...thanks!!

The easiest is to work with everything in a 30i timeline and shoot the 24p as NORMAL.

Working with 30i in a 24p timeline is much more problematic as there are motion and field artifacts that need to be corrected. If there was going to only be a small amount of 30i, then you can render those shots out to 24p using FluidMotion, but it is a long process...

thanks michael...the majority of the footage IS 24p. I actually came upon your article about FluidMotion before (I am always referencing your site) but it seems that it is not available on AXP 5.1.6. Any work arounds?

Will the 30i material in a 24p timeline only become a problem if I am eventually going to film? Or will I also experience problems down the line going to DVD?

Thanks for you help Michael!

You will experience problems with DVD as well. The article I wrote on FluidMotion does work with Xpress Pro. You need to download the bin and use the presets I made. Since Xpress Pro has the FluidMotion engine, the presets will render the proper outout needed.

Hey Michael. You appear to be a vet at this. I'm a novice. I just shot footage in F5 mode on DVX-100. What format should I capture and edit footage in Avid Xpress Pro - 23.976p, 24p, or 30i? I used 23.976p. Thanks.
