30i and 24fps mixiing

I'm trying to use a non DVX100 camera as a B roll camera but becuase the B cam only does 30i the look is not filmic like the DVX (in 24 FPS mode). What do other's do for this situation? The best I have come up with is to render the 30i as 30 progressive (which give a semi but degraded filmic look). After this I mix the footage with the DVX100 24 and render to 30i. This seems to be somewhat workable but not perfect.

Does rendering the 24fps footage as 30i degrade the image or is it just adding the 3-2 (and 20% more data)?

Re: 30i and 24fps mixiing

If during capture of progressive footage you selected no pulldown then what you have is 29.976fps dv material. That along with your interlaced 29.976 should play fine. You can not "add" frames into progressive 24fps material with a removed pulldown to match the rate of interlaced 29.976fps video. But if you do not originally remove the pulldown you do in fact have extra video frames in the material so the rate will be the same but i still think there is going to be a slightly noticable difference. Since the advanced progressive pulldown is 2:3:3:2:2:3:3:2 your progressive material without the remove of the pulldown will look a bit odd. Basically two frames are less duration than the previous two of longer duration.(ok for that www.adamwilt.com, i can't explain far as good as he can)  Good luck

Edit: If your 24fps footage is not advanced as i stated above than the durations will be exact. Normal 24fps pulldown is 2:3:2:3 so you should be fine mixing that with your interlaced material. So i think...
