30 second commercial

Nice card play - of course, the guy with the cards seemed so slick that it made me want to play.
:)

I'm a bit confused by the closing line - "If you don't know how to gamble...don't gamble." It sort of left me feeling like its okay to gamble as long as you know what you're doing. The problem is most people with gambling problems think they are in control - much like alcoholics. So, maybe not exactly the message you want to send.

From a tech standpoint - the VO sounded a bit blown out (though that may just be YouTube, I'm not sure).

I agree with Luis. The tag line at the end is a bit confusing.

Cool stuff. But the lighting was really harsh. Should have put some diffusion or something. What did you use in terms of lighting?

I have no experience with lights, so I simply put up a key light. I agree about the tagline at the end, it is slightly confusing and not persuasive enough. BTW, I was the guy with cards also, lol. Anyways, thanks for responses. Good stuff.

The card tricks were great. Everything else...

I'd love to see you do a spot for a magic company that was shot really nicely to feature the tricks.

Well, our school doesn't have any decent equipment. We got some GL2s, some crappy lav mics, terrible lights, and horrible tripods (you can't make a decent pan without the head jerking like crazy). Anyway, I did this project for the videography class and would like to know if I got talent for this video thing. I think I got some nice shots and the editing was good in my view. I still have a lot to learn, but I need some motivation to continue. Anyway, if things go well, I'll soon get a DVX camera, nice tripod, nice shotgun mic, and some lights. I will create my own magic company and reveal tricks for money. In the free time, I will shoot short films. What do you guys think?

only problem is,, poeople are already revealing tricks.. for free :P a little thing called the internet :D

Hey Otto go for it. You never know until you try and even when you try and fail, keep trying as long as you have the passion for it (I believe it is all that matters). As long as it doesn't leave you in great debt. I recently did a 30 second commercial for you tube's LG contest only to find out I did not make the top 20 cut out of 915 entries. I still believe in myself and feel I've come a long way since last year when I shot my first ever short film for a 12 hour film festival.

i believe a lot of people's skill comes from experience.
so no one can say "stop trying your never going to make it, because your no good".

but looking at what you have done in that video.
i say its good and does need improvement like the audio and lighting.
and i dont think you can blame your equipment. its not hard to find more lights.

i would look at it as experience and now you know for your next project to focus a bit more on lighting

Could somebody point out in which shots the lighting and/or audio is bad? I would like to know to get better. Also, any suggestions for equipment and/or technique when using those two would be great. Thanks.

after looking at it again i was mistaken about the audio.

and the light is bad on the B&W shots. so it might not be the lighting it could be what you did when you made it B&W making it to dark

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the dark type of lighting kind of works for a gambling mood. Also, it's not as dark as it seems. Looks much better on TV than youtube. I'm not trying to blame it on youtube or anything, I just want some constructive criticism.

Hey everyone. I'm new to this site. I recently made this commerical for college and would like to know what everyone thinks of it.

Great Start.

Good Visually.

I think you could really increase your production value by re-recording your voice over with a much higher quality set up.

The visuals are nice enough and would be greatly enhanced by this new audio.

The only suggestion I might be so bold to make is the closing line.

The tag line of if you don't know how to gamble don't gamble isn't really a deterrent.

It's actually a challenge and motivation to learn to gamble better which takes, time, resources, and practice.

:D

Keep up the good work!
