30-sec spot

We shot this on an HVX w/ 2 4-gig p2's rented from Movieola in Hollywood. It was our first time messing with it and with just a 3-man crew and basic Arri lighting kit, we shot this in an 8-hour day. It may not replace the Vericam for our biggest shoots, but it sure makes for a nice "in-between" alternative to offer our clients. But I'm probably just preaching to the choir, so enough of that! Here's the spot...

REALLY NICE STUFF!!! That really made me want to go to their website. I wish all commercials were that good, I would actually watch them.

Nice indeed. Nowadays, it's hard to find a commercial that has a plot And has product identification. With many ads nowadays I often remember the commercial but never the product name or type. Here it works very well.

excellent ! Did you come up with the concept direct with the client or was it through an ad agency ?

had you used the HVX before that day? How tough is the learning curve?
I have a possible client here soon and I'm wondering whether I should rent the HVX kit for 1 day or if it needs the entire week to get familiar with.

good work btw. :)

Volkswagen does a great job of distinguishing itself from other manufacturers. I was thinking this exact same thing last night while watching their newest fleet of commercials.

This spot is pretty cool. I likes da HVX.

Dude, totally loved it. Definately the best local commercial that I've seen. Are you located on the Central Coast? I'm from Santa Maria.

This was great.. you sure got a lot in 30 secs.. the guy that said 'it'll have to' is hilarious. Best work on HVX i've seen..

It was one of those rare occasions where a client just let me run with it. They said they wanted something different that would stand out. We were also lucky to be working directly with the client- our agency work rarely comes out this nice. Too many chefs, as they say!

It was our first run with it. My DP spent a few hours fiddling with the frame rates and the P2 transfers to the powerbook. That was really all he needed. He is very advanced with the 100, so obviously that helps. If you have shot a lot with the 100, the learning curve is minimal. Maybe spend one extra day messing with it, but you shouldn't need more than that.

Yes- we are located in the production mecca that is the Central Coast. Our studio is in Santa Maria, but we're moving to Grover Beach in a couple weeks. Since you're from SM, you probably don't have to guess why!

Nice work. I'm working on my first 2 spots with the cam as well. Love editing the mornings footage at lunch for the client. But.... the version I veiwed is 1 min. did I miss the 30 sec version somewhere?

Great!!! Very funny and very well shot. Good locations and good faces. What was the budget and how much equipment did you bring?
