a 30 second grab for a short movie im working on. The first thing we shot for it and i made a quick cut. I mixed the audio a bit, but I'm not sure how to die out the sounds of cars a bit. Also to add a bit of echo to steps and voice. Basically I'm kinda of a noob when it comes to audio. Other than that, hows it look to you guys?

did you white balance it? or is it ment to look greenish....

There is a bit of a shake in it, should use a tripod.

If its a trailer you should have a title fade at the end and/or start.

Looks really intresting though, keep it up! i want to know more! whos not comming? great way to get people interested. I like the cut on sequence when he throws the cigarte,

That was nice. The handheld stuff didn't bother me. Felt more real that way.

The guy must be rich or trying to stop smoking. He only took one drag on the cig then tossed it.

Nice stuff. Keep it up!

It be more effective for me if you used a tripod. "Real" PK com'on, nothing is real anymore. I thought Pokemons were real at one point. I was dissapointed! :(

It looked okay. It was abit compressed looking overall, eh its awight!

Yeah, we couldn't find the tripod that day, we were mad. But it still turned it pretty good to me, I mean it kinda has that "real" feel to it as one of you mentioned. And it is supposed to look greenish. I'll update you guys on the movie as we make it!

It looks promising. I like the greenish feel twords it. I like hand held work but for that type of shot you do need to find a tripod or dolly something.

Definitely intriguing, keep us posted. And agreed, I like the green. I also like the master-shot-in-master-shot-out setup for the guy coming in off camera and the walk off.

for sound, just try to record a good minute of 'roomtone' in that location, then lay it over the audio you have already, but put the levels down a bit. that way you won't have such bad sound cuts between shots...it'll keep everything more fluid.

ill try, thanks! but is there any way lower the sound of cars without lowering the sound of dialouge?

i liked it

The only shot where I thought the handheld camera might have been distracting was the final shot in the clip from behind the two guys because there was already a previous shot from behind them that apparently wasn't handheld (or you had really steady hands in that shot). Other than that, I thought the handheld was good, especially in the close-ups.

Another possible suggestion is, since you were using that greenish tinted look, I thought it would have been cool if you pushed the contrast up a little to make it look more crisp.

Since you were switching back and forth from wide shots to close-ups, the change in the tone of the cars in the background wasn't all that distracting, and actually added some good ambience in my opinion.

But hey, this is a good scene. The way you shot it, it's interesing. It makes me wonder: Who isn't coming? Why isn't he coming? Why would he come in the first place? It's a good hook. Keep it up.

Thanks! Yeah, the contrast is up, maybe I should boost even higher. It might be because I compressed the thing into 2 megs that it doesn't look crisp. Well the scene is in the middle of the short, so when completed you'll know who's not coming :)

The green looked intentional to me because the opening of the shot away from the window was really saturated with it. But if we were to open in the window alone, I'd question if it was intentional or not. Average viewers won't notice this though-

The handheld stuff dosn't bother me. It's used a lot and sometimes can help with the feeling like the audience is there at the location of the scene. But you have moments when you're trying to keep it more steady than others which feels like you wanted the shots to be steady only didn't have a tripod to do it with. In the future, I'd suggest If you go hand held, push the hand held feeling so the intent is there.

As far as sound goes, you asked if you can lower the background car noise. You can lessen it to a degree in final cut pro using audio filters, but you can't get rid of it. What you need to do is record about two minutes of room tone or location background sound without any acting in it. You then take that room tone, play with the volume levels and loop it under your audio track to heal gaps between your cuts.

Look forward to the finished flik-

Yeah defientaly agree with that first part, I should made it more clear that it's handheld.

At the end of the scene that starts at 00:14 he lifts the cigarette to his lips and takes a drag. It never shows him finish his drag and remove the cigarette from his lips. When it cuts to the next shot (00:21) it shows him lifting the cigarette to his lips again.

Sorry, I know it's a small thing but it could be fixed with a simple edit. Just thought I'd let you know.

yes i know, i didn't work on the audio when i outputted that, and i too noticed the cigarette lift is wrong. this was just a rough cut just to see how it would look if i were to finish the movie.
