Three live video I shot for Swedish Radio (SR P3) shot on D90.
A six hour live radio show to follow up on a 144 hour live show that raised money to children in need.
This time there was some live music in the studio. I did the videos on my D90, speed graid it, throw in some extra clips and then uploaded on YouTube. Al done under the six hour show.

Haha... Of course it’s was the pug-ins. ;) First time I used them Mattias. Cause I don’t work in FCP usually. But worked like a charm.

Obviously your lighting was good. Did you use any exposure 'tricks'? What were your picture/contrast/sharpness settings? Any custom curve?

Your images look very sharp (though focus was an issue in some shots)--are we all putting our sharpness settings too low and hurting the d90 image?

Did you use any other filters/processing in FCP except the TMTS ones?

My Picture Control were set on "Neutral*" *=Sharpening +1 Contrast -1 Saturation -1. Im working on a custom curve I cal "Vision2 5229" :) But this is the original. I just played around with the focus when it was too boring. Remember I was alone and hade one chance to do the entire sync shot. And pull focus and operate on a D90 is not a dream.
In FCP I did a fast colour graid of course 3-way & brightness & contrast.

Did this answer your questions?

When you say Sharpening +1, do you mean 1 unit above the middle mark? Many here are recommending much lower sharpening settings than that.

I feel that there is a crispness/sharpness to your video that looks more like the Canon 5D than the Nikon d90. I am wondering if it is because you have the sharpening up higher than most. I certainly didn't see evidence of problems from the increased sharpening setting. Perhaps the fact that the performers were against the black background helped to either give the impression of a sharper image, or somehow allowed the d90 compression algorithm to do a better job.

Exactly. +1/1 unit above middle mark. I don’t now what recommended and I can’t say I care. I can’t any problem with +1 sharpness. Your philosophy can be right! Dark background and back light can feel sharp. But I just did my job and didn’t thought about that.

i use sharpness 0. i don't know what the benefit of using lower would be since i've never seen any sharpening artifacts anyway.

I guess I misunderstood some of your earlier posts where I got the impression that you set your sharpening lower than the middle '0' mark because of sharpening artifacts.

Do you agree that this video has a sharper appearance than many others posted so far?

i probably experimented with that before, so you may have understood correctly. i've since settled for 0 though.

no, backlit footage always looks sharper, it's not all about resolution. i don't think it makes much of a difference really.
