3 New Commercials - GH1

Hey guys, check out these commercials I shot for a restaurant around here... shot exclusively on GH1... tell me what you think.

On the first one, when you do the closeup on the guy, the background cupboards
seem a bit 'askew'... I would have lined up the cubboard a bit more 'parallel' to the
frame, at least the vertical edge nearest his face.

On the second one, some of the shots had focus in the 'wrong place'. For example when the guy draws the shorts out, they seem in soft focus. Also I wouldn't have pulled back to the original framing as he realizes his 'mistake'...

On the third one, the girl comes in, then a shot of her where you move the camera to
be in front of the guy in the chair. I would have shot her some from the same camera position, just panned up. Then for the final shot, perhaps in front, but with the guy to the right side and the door slam on the left, that is both in the shot for his final gesture.

Looks great!

Looks great!

These really have a great feel to them. And the "squirting substance in mouth that I obviously shouldn't" gag never gets old.

I'm using these as examples of what can be done with this camera... great lighting too!

What lenses did you shoot the bulk of them with may I ask?

I used a Nikon 1.8 50mm and a Nikon 1.4 85mm for these... and lighting was done with a standard 3 light Red head kit...

How much wouldyou charge for something like

How much wouldyou charge for something like

that?

I know this is something you might not want to answer, I live in the UK and am sure I could make that sort of commercial, but what would I charge? typically to produce something like that, what would a company expect to pay?

Well I guess what you would have to ask yourself is what would you think a commercial of the quality of these is worth. I mean how much would you expect to pay for it. Then try to calculate what you think your time is worth. Consider all the variable, whether you have a track record of material to show you are capable of delivering top notch product to your client, are you new to the business or have been doing it for years, how competitive is the market you live in, how much do you want to do the job, how are you going to pay rent next month, etc. There's a million variables, you have to decide on YOUR price. There is an industry standard but for each of these the total cost to the client would be about 900-1300 a spot I would say. A lot of times if I get asked to do a job I'm not necessarily thrilled about doing I will quote them at about 30% higher than my normal rate, and if they still want me, I will do it for that. And on top of all that, it's different with every client, some know what creativity is worth, some don't. Anyways glad you can make this kind of commercial! haha
