Hey All!

It's Jaclyn with Zacuto:)
We just released webisode two of FilmFellas, "A Reel Experience", you can watch it here www.filmfellas.tv. I think the show’s really great and helpful for those in the film industry. For those who are following it, Steven Dadouche's idea of taking on other jobs in order to fund a film career was cut short in webisode one, but in this webisode the Fellas begin to reminisce on their past experiences, hardships and roles as young filmmakers working in the biz. They discuss how important it is to utilize any avenue of learning such as; film schools, courses, mentors and the internet in order to advance your knowledge.

If you loved webisode one, come back for seconds and watch webisode two, "A Reel Experience".

PLUS I hope we get a nice thread going here at DVXuser. I'll start it off...

How many of you think film school is worth it or should you just jump right in and start making projects and learn as you go?

-Jaclyn

I enjoyed the video today - although I'd love to see more "meat" in the future. But overall I like what you guys are doing. As for filmschool - I plan on using the video against my wife - who is a big "go to school" person. Now I can say "see the experts say, you don't need film school." LOL But no I'm not a big fan of school, I'm more of a fan of experience.

I clicked on the link but it goes back to dvx user page ! Where is the video?

As for film school, I graduated from San Francisco State Univ with a degree in film production. I went to work on theatrical movies in Norway. I started out as an assistant editor and shot camera. I directed a couple of features later. Later I did commercials in 35mm and finally moved back to Hollywood and worked in independent film. I never wanted to work in the studio system or for network television. I've made my living as an indie filmmaker for 40 years.

If I had to do it over again, I'd still go to school when young. If you want to make Hollywood movies, it's better to go to Hollywood and apply for any job in the studio system. Believe it or not the mailroom is still the fastest route to working in the industry.

If your goal is to make a big movie someday, it's better not to waste any time in school. I'd even skip high school if I can. LOL School is a waste of time if all you want to do is make money period. If you want to make movies that make money, forget school.

If you want to make movies like an artist; i.e., you believe (as I do) that film is an art form, then school will give you the background, so for one thing you can separate the art from the business of selling art. Otherwise you're going to end up jumbling up the art of making movies with the "art of making money" and you'll spend years chasing your tail, so to speak. LOL

Only 6 minutes. That's whack dude. I want 30 - 45 minutes of you guys having this dialogue. You could put this all together on a DVD and sale this thing. I watched that whole thing straight through and didn't get bored. You guys are talking the real deal, I like this.

You guys should have a guest every week. Someone who actively making films (maybe even with the equipment they get from Zacuto) and have this same kind of conversation with them, get a perspective from difference races, sexes and cultures on filmmaking and how they're going about making their films and what their education level is, etc.

-Nate

Exactly Nate

Exactly Nate

cast two of FilmFellas with starts on March 1st stars Joe Swanberg, Kris Williams & Susan Buice who are all actively makeing films. FilmFellas really has nothing to do with Zacuto and is a show more about how to make a sustainable living as a filmmaker and really not about equipment.

I have another show coming that will be about equipment.
