2nd Philip Bloom GH2 + Voigtlander 25mm f0.95 lens video

the 1080 resolved is stunning... a cut above the gh13. (from the vimeo download)

This is impressive. Very impressive.

With HDMI out, this seems like a camera with long legs. For my job, we'll be picking up an AF100. For me personally, I want one of these...

Its early to call yet... but I suspect it may be resolving quite a bit more than the AF100!

were any of you guys able to pick out when he used the crop zoom function? I couldnt, well maybe one shot where it was abit jello but damn hard to spot.

My guess was the XCU shot of the roulette wheel. It seemed like one of the few shots where Phil might have used the GH2's Extra Tele Conversion feature. But that's just a wild guess on my part.

I've watched the video 3 times through (my eyes, my eyes! grin) and I can't tell which shots are the ETC shots. My guess is Phil was wise enough to steady the camera more when using the ETC feature, and that makes it very difficult to spot. As he says, ETC seems "great for getting more out of your lenses".

It will be interesting to see how GH2 users learn to make best use of the ETC feature. I suspect there may be additional situations to avoid in addition to high action and/or w/o stabilization.

For example, if this makes any sense: The audience may expect (perhaps subconsciously) DOF to change when focal length changes; e.g.: when a sequence cuts from a wide shot to a close-up using 2 lenses or a zoom lens w/o changing the camera-subject distance. When using ETC, it might be a good idea to also change the relative position/angle of the camera & subject as a way to avoid direct comparison of the DOF from cut to cut. Again, for most people in the audience, not doing so may go unnoticed, or it might seem inexplicably "off". Will be interesting to experiment with.

I plan to use it with 85mm 1.4 for epic telephoto... Would be like a f3.5 S35 lens with 1.4 brightness
That would be a tripod only though, for sure.

Where can this Voigtlander 25mm f.95 be found at? Not that I'm in love with the idea of spending $1000 for it but it would be a good investment for a fast wide.

Only place to find this lens right now is on Ebay. Do a search there. Don't be surprised if you need to order it from Germany. They go quick when they appear as everyone is after them.

Also, it is not a wide. 25mm is considered a normal lens on micro4/3, like a 50mm on fullframe DSLR or 30mm on APS-C.

I'm also intrigued by the ETC feature, but playing devil's advocate here; isn't it in essence just turning your large sensor beast into a more conventional small chip camcorder? Sure there is no moire, line skipping, etc...but your dusty old pre-DSLR camcorder never had those problems to begin with!

This is exactly true.

But hey, at least now you have two in one...

That's guaranteed bogus.

Hi Jesse: I think I know what you mean, but there's a chance perhaps that the GH2's Extra Tele Conversion mode might resolve at least as much as the AF100. Obviously it's a special-use feature, but it's an interesting possibility. Or not. ;-)
