2FRAME with 720/30PN

I was experimenting with forcing framerates through the SD card with the recording mode set to 720/30PN. When I forced 2fps, an empty 64gb card showed 608 available minutes. When recorded, the time code ticks at 2fps as if in interval mode, but the scene file is set to film cam, with the ability to change shutter angle fully functional. The strange part was if the frame rate was changed to 12 or 18, the time code would tick along accordingly, with the p2 playback showing a pre-assembled time lapse. Excuse this post if it is mentioned elsewhere....a search of the forum led me to nothing on the matter. I always thought in order to shoot variable frame rates in film cam mode, you had to shoot in 720/60p.

Is my camera automatically reverting to interval mode, or is this something the camera doesn't normally do?

Thanks!

edit: the camera is an hvx205a

variable frame rates are only available in 720pN modes. They can be achieved to some degree in 1080 and 480 modes with a little work. There are several detailed threads on this topic in this forum as well as very good information in the HVX/HPX book if you have that.

It's not true that variable frame rates are only available in 720pN mode. You can use variable frame rates in 720p mode as well; it's just that they work differently (if you don't remove the pulldown). If you remove the pulldown, the end result is exactly the same as 24pN. If you don't remove the pulldown, you get a step-printing effect, which is its own valid look.

Thanks for your help guys. Clearing the book order through boss man, looks like it's a great resource. Every time I use this camera it seems I learn something neat.

Again, thanks.
