2D Animations

Love this style of infographic animation. I've made my fair share of animation using premiere and photoshop but the movement and transitions in this sample look beyond the capabilites of that approach:

What program(s) would you use to make this? Illustrator, photoshop, after effects, other?

It's worth noting you would definitely also use Illustrator to build out/storyboard the animation. After Effects to actually animate obviously, but knowing both programs I'd cringe at the idea of having to actually draw those vectors in After Effects.

That's true, I use Illustrator for the design of the elements and even for the storyboard.

Cool, thank you. It sounds like there is a consensus to make the graphics and rigging in Illustrator and then animate in After Effects.

I've built many flat graphical style animations by creating a layered photoshop file and then importing as a sequence and keyframing straight in premiere as a nested sequence. It's a relatively quick and organized process and you would be suprised with how far you can take it. It's also really easy to make changes by just updating the photoshop file and not having to dynamically link an after effects project.

That being said, with the above approach you just can't create those vector transitions and movements that you see in the original example. I'm going to have to practice more and come up with an easy and quick workflow. The quality of results definitly seem worth it for certain projects.
