I shot footage in 24pa, and I am editing on a 24p timeline I believe. I captured and put it on the timeline. I click properties and it says the clip is "29.96 (24p)".

I just want to make sure I'm not doing anythnig wrong before I start editing more footage. Why does it say 29.96?

thanx

24pA adds pulldown frames to pad the footage out to 29.96
24pN does not add duplicate frames and produce footage that will be 23.976

^ thats helpful

can someone please tell a noob how to get my 24pa footage to remain 24p or 23.976 on output. thanx

If you shoot 24pA, then you edit in a 24p (29.976) project. If you shoot 24p (no A) then you edit in a 29.976 project OR a 23.976 project and select "Remove 24p pulldown" in the footage intemperate dialog.

If you're using Premiere Pro 2.0 or later, either 24p or 24pA footage should appear as 23.976 in a 24p project without you actually having to do anything.

If it doesn't . . . which version of Premiere are you using? There was no 24p support before Premiere Pro 1.0.

If you're talking about using the HVX200 (or HPX500, or 2000 or 3000), shooting 720p, then yes, this is correct. That's the only time "24pN" may come into play. But there's no 24pA in 720, so the original poster must not have shot in 720.

Shooting with the DVX, there is no "24pN," there's 24p standard, and it, too, adds fields to "pad" the footage to 29.97, just in a different arrangement.
