26 inch reel

Just a quick note... The 16:9 cropping for at ~2:05 (building demolition) is not covering the very top and bottom edges.

Otherwise, nice collection of shots. A few of the daylight shots are a little hot and you might want to CC them a little. Maybe crush the blacks a bit.

The log ride shot near the beginning is very nice.

from what I've seen in other reels, it would seem the objective is to show lots of short clips from your work, typically with an overdub of music to make it a continuous. I think the work you showed is really good, but including the native sound got me too interested in the content of the clip versus the quality of the images. Like I said though, the images are great. Maybe increase the pace.

I enjoyed this a lot, I thought it was very well done. The 16:9 crop changing position for the building demolition is a little distracting, but other than that I was very impressed.

Dolby, I would cut this down to about 45 seconds and use the best of what you have here. Choose some hipper music and really synchronize your footage to the sound.

That way, it will be more immediate, punchy, and will show your best stuff in a much smaller window of time. Keep in mind that most people who watch these reels have an extremely short attention span. Chances are, as is, they'll turn it off after 30 seconds (and you'll be lucky if you even get that long). So get as much as you can upfront.

Oh, and one more thing...the shots where your shadow is in the frame, don't use them, it looks unprofessional.

oops.....when I rendered to WMV from the timeline the two building clips resized themseves in vegas. Here are what they should have looked like.

Another use of the reel is to get some editing work as well. As I am still learning the craft your comments are welcome. Thanks.

Great reel!
I really liked it...and that shot of the log at the beginning was terrific!
Was all of this DVX?

I would say it would need more interior shots. Almost all of your shots were outside. The same comment about the native sound. I got caught up in listening to the car dudes and not paying attention to the images.

i agree, cut it don by half. get the BEST shots and use different music. the reel is good but some simple work can make it great.

Thanks everyone. I am going to take some time to chop it down some more tonight.

Hopefully I can get some good work from it soon.
