25pn ?

i've heard 24pn can cause problems in the edit, and that you really shouldn't use it unless you want to blow up to film.

but what about 25pn? as pal is 25fps does that eliminate the problem for pal regions?

also does 25pn give better still frames? what other advantages does it have other than extended record time (on a pal camera)?

does avchd support 24pn, 25p and 25pn?
so far i've only heard that it supports 24p.

cheers

I think when shooting 24pn you lose 1 frame every few which doesn't happen with pa.

If you are in Pal worl, you wount deal with 24p as the HVX simply doenst got it..!
25pn can be a problem in editing, to specify this, the whole 720 mode (no matter you usepn-modes or not..!) are not yet supported by Avid..!

To my knowledge all the other big editing programs should do it now, at least with the support of Raylight (on PP2 and Vegas..), FCP does it (not natively) and i am working with Edius which does it straight ahead..!
So whenever you have the chance to use PN, use it, saves you space on P2 and your final backup...!
There is NO difference in quality compard to p-modes!

you never deal with those crazy pulldowns with 25p do you?
2,3
2,3,3,2

also, when shooting in the progressive mode on a pal mx500 i couldn't see any difference to the 50i mode

but the frame mode gave it that great film look, took away that cheesy video look (blends the fields to create full frames i think)

is 25p on cams like the dvx, hvx more like the frame mode on the mx500 than the prgressive mode, look wise?

No, id never deal with this horrobile pulldown..!

Yep, check the HVX/DVX footage, it can be progressive, its both ptogressive chips and HVX has also native 16:9 chips...go and see some footage, specially on a CRT....!

Regarding Avid.
Check out the forums, The new XPro 5.7 supports basic 720/50p, and Marianna has posted a workround for 25p.

Dave
