25p vs 50i in low lighting

Hi,

With the DVX100a (PAL). I am shooting a performance tonight, and its quite dark. Normally i shoot with 25p though.. would 50i mode produce better in low light conditions?

I will pretty much be zoomed in to 90% with the iris open, shutter off and possibley gain up.

I found that 50i seemed to allow 40%-50% more light in, was able to shoot at iris of 4+ which gave a nice sharp picture, though the red just blurred out of control and when it got very dark opening the iris made it grainy.

no gain was needed.
 
Due to the row-pair summation effect, interlaced with give you about 1/2 stop more exposure, even with the same shutter speed and iris.
