25P trouble, is it just me?

Yoak, Im trying to think of where this might be coming from. FWIW at this stage Ive shot a bunch of stuff in 25P and in my edit suite Im viewing on a Pana pro plasma I'm not seeing anything of concern - as in watching my footage Im not seeing stutter in my shots.

Also it could be purely down to how I shoot - I don't tend to pan shots unless I follow action so it is possible Im not noticing it. The only lens I have that is the same as you is the 14-140. SO you're seeing it at all focal lengths on this lens? I will do some panning in the next few days and check it for you.

It's in all the focal lengths yes;-(
The manual Nikon prime didn't solve the prob....too bad. It seems a little better though, but still way too much. Everyone...trained eye or not sees it...should def not be like this. Frustrating.
If this cannot be solved , I will for sure solve it by changing brand after more than 20 years with my beloved brand Panasonic. I will hook up my hvx200e along with it for a pan test, but i know its a huge difference already.
HVX200 + M2 encore looks wayyyyyy better with 25P....;-)) while panning, at least.

The only reason I mention shooting on the hvx200e as well is because if we look at some subsequent frame grabs, we can try and determine what is going on. I believe you if you see it. However, to help identify the problem, we need to have a good example so we can see what the motion is causing in the image.

Did you try swinging your detail from say -7 to +7 and see how the motion looks? Under different ISO settings? Just trying to think of all the things I would try. I'm still baffled why you see it on the plasma but not on the computer.

How about this, can you attach your AF100 to a plasma and playback directly from the camera? I would do this. This eliminates EVERY other piece of software/hardware.

Theres lots of 25P stuff around, say youtube for example - are you seeing the same in other peoples clips by comparison?

Since alot of users don't have this problem, could it be related to early release models? the serial number (under the viewfinder) says "KOTDA0006" on mine....

@Rick: I have tried several setting like ISO, detail etc nothing yet really change this...;-( i will try to hook my cam directly to the editors screen as soon as I can. When I do to my own LED screen I do see it (47").
@Noel: I havent checked youtube stuff on the specified monitor, no.
Have to thank you all for ideas and meaningful comments.

Well if you see it off the camera directly to the 47" then that eliminates everything post camera. :) Time for some screengrabs off of a camera you like the motion on. I'd say you need to look at successive frames as well. And really get in there and look at the blur. I'd mount the cameras above one another and line up the lens as best as possible to the sensor location. The important part is whatever object you are going to pan across, you want to frame exactly to that object and probably have a constant background behind the whole shot (since with the same framing, the background FOV will be different given the different sensor sizes). This way, you can focus JUST on the object moving across the sensor in the same relative speed and content. Having the background move at different speeds could detract from the measurements and make it tough to see the motion blur between them. Go for really constrasty colors.

and now the 24p/25p jitter problems arrived to the AF100 too.. indeed many talks about it with GH2

Actually roei it hasnt for me at all and for that matter any other AF102EN Ive seen. This is why Im talking to OP to try and understand what it is they are seeing and work through things. As a moderator on the forum, reading the boards and in my experience Ive found theres often an explanation that can be sought through discussion.

I notice many of your comments are inflammatory.

most of them are just cynical humor from getting fed up with what you also don't like... sorry if misunderstood.
about this specific issue, i investigated it on my GH2 here for a long time and it's still didn't get a definite answer, so it's interesting that people notice it on the AF100 also.
just plain curiosity.

*BTW - if you'll notice my posts then you'll also see that 90% of them are me seeking for important legitimate info i didn't find by searching,
and sometimes no one even bother to answer, so it's a little funny that some occasional trolling threads are treated with tons of wasted replies...

Meidell - it's a shame it wasn't related to manual/electronic lenses... I suppose that would have been too easy...

How about doing a duplicate pan or hand held (something quicky & dirty) in 25P & 24P? It would be interesting to see if there's any differences in the motion. I'm not suggesting a switch to 24P, just a two shot test. This would give a good cross reference (with the way your cams are set for the shoot) and, if there is a significant difference between the two, a starting point for more thought.

Guys - any updates? I still think a duplicate shot in 24P, 25P & even 30P would be a good test... anyway, hope the shoot is going OK.

Can we have a small clip and a couple of frame grabs where the issue is occurring to take a look at? I think this is the only way to try and get to the bottom of it.

Sorry, but I have had no time to do any more testing as we are shooting almost every day. I know Meidell have spoken to Panasonic, and they thought it could be a software issue (which we both doubt), and we will try to hook the camera straight into the Panasonic reference monitor in the editing suite to check that

The shutter was off, F1 and F6 was used in filmcam 25P.

I have an AF102 and when I first shot in default settings some of my pans looked strobing so I went into scene file, Syncro Scan chose 180 degree shutter and lowed detail to -4 and v detail to -4 and all looks good. Maybe the default shutter off is the problem? Have you tried various Syncro Scan settings?

I thought some of the first footage I shot was with 180 degree shutter (which I presume is just another way of saying 1/50 in 25p or does it behave differently?)
I shot so many different settings by now, but will try out yours for sure. Thanks

On the PAL version 1/50 or default is set (whilst in film cam mode) when you select shutter off.

While editing I've noticed that I too have a series of takes with a move which causes this nasty judder. It's like frames are repeating or frames are missed. I will try to get some video up. I would have used shutter off.
