25p rolling shutter

Hi,
I have been using my 5D in 30 NTSC and found the best shutter speeds to avoid rolling shutter were 100 and 50fps.
Now in PAL, with the new firmware, there seems to be rolling shutter visible at all shutter speeds?
Has anyone got any advice on how to avoid it?

Thanks

I think you are conflating frame rate, rolling shutter and banding (where the camera falls out of sync with the 50Hz lighting in PAL countries.).

No shutter speed will mitigate rolling shutter.

The 5D only shoots 24, 25 and 30 fps. (Not 50 and 100 fps)

Banding is what you must be talking about (dark horizontal bands moving up the frame) can be solved by sticking to 1/50th and 1/100th shutter speeds when there is a lot of 50Hz artificial light around.

The reason you can still see banding at all shutter speeds is that the 5D has an LCD that refreshes at 60Hz, this was fine when we only had 30fps, but now we can shoot 24fps and 25fps these new frame rates clash with the LCD refresh rate.

So . . . upload some footage to your computer, you will find that footage shot at 25fps and 1/50th or 1/100th shutter speed will not suffer from this problem, it is fine, the problem is only on the LCD, the footage is not effected.
