25p on Canon's 5d m2?

Quoted from Vincent's blog:
One of the visitors of Photokina 2008 Trade Show in Cologne reported in a well known German Canon forum today (http://www.dforum.net/), that Canon is now actually discussing a firmware upgrade to enable 25 fps mode. Furthermore, the Canon technician, who revealed this information, confirmed, that the 25 fps can be achieved by firmware change only, no hardware modifications are required. (Alex)

As the Reverie short was seen over 1500000 times meaning there is slight interest about the movie mode on 5D MK2.
I can't see how they didn't see that coming. But all business uses outside Japan and US of this video mode require 25fps specially in news applications. I imagine why on earth shouldn't they sell 3 pieces of 5D mk2 instead of the any possible prosumer full frame camcorder just because of the the price.

There is hope,
T

I'll try to translate what was said on dforum.net from Howard:

"...Yesterday (29/09) I was on the Photokina. Once again I scrutinized the Canon officer. Probably the firmware update to shoot 25p will come soon. He couldn't promise anything but he said Canon is discussing the issue and thinking about it. Double superblink with affirmative nodding while he said "just wait 2 more weeks". When I asked him if it would be a simple software update he confirmed that it would be so."

I can tell you for sure that 24P/25P is being brought to Canon's attention. I have voiced it to my Canon USA insider. He said he will bring it up in Japan. He didn't want to speculate if it was easy as a firmware upgrade.

good stuff!!! it's inevitable that they must listen and deal with the 24p/25p-question.

if you ask me, japan has already gotten the wake-up call. businesswise, it would be totally irresponisible to igore such valuable source as vincent's blog, where you have 1'000 potential customers requesting one specific feature..

ps: we have 908 guys requesting 24p so far..

I hassled the canon rep in my uk canon store..he wrote notes...by the way if you look at the specs on the uk canon website it says '~30fps'. and not just '30fps' ..weird.

Now, that ~30fps is interesting. That might be something I'd write if it was doing 29.97fps instead of 30.00. But the raw footage from Vincent is at 30.00fps... maybe they are changing it to 29.97, which would be really good for people wanting to mix it in with a second camera.

Still it needs to at least have a firmware version doing 25fps for non NTSC people... those of us wanting 24fps could just slow it down 4% and be ok-ish.
