25p can transfer to flim?. what the problem?

Re: 25p can transfer to flim?. what the problem?

Yes it can, it's done all the time. The "problem" is that film runs at 24 fps, so there needs to be some speed changing taken into account. Typically the soundtrack is slowed down by 4%. PAL countries have been dealing with this issue for decades and are quite expert at it.

No, that is not so. No cinemas in the world run at 25fps. They all run at 24fps. At least cinemas you pay a ticket at.

Yes, but not movie theaters. The statement was that some movie theaters having 25 frames projectors, which is not so.

And I am not sure how film is transferred to PAL in telecines, adding one frame or not. If they did not there would be a higher pitch on the audio track.

they dont ad any frame, the speed is 4 % higher

Re: 25p can transfer to flim?. what the problem?

did you try to check the difference between the the frame rate in the day show against the last of the day?
in israel the progector guys usially want to go early ,so some thetaers have fast motion moovies in 25 fps, thats 15 minuts less in Lord of the ring case:)

Re: 25p can transfer to flim?. what the problem?

It is not uncommon to have projectors at different frame rates. This can be due to lack of maintenance or otherwise. A survey done several years ago in North America showed that the avergae frames rate in theaters was 26.5 fps!

There have been cases where the speed-up was intentional allowing the theater owner to squeeze in one more showing over the course of a day...

Ah business...
