I want to buy a low light prime lens for my gh4 before this wedding I got coming up on the 15th, what do you guys recommend? the Slr magic 25mm 0.95 for around $550 or the 25mm 1.4 Lumix Lens?
Are they both just as sharp wide open?
Thanks
Different beasts. I'd say over sharpness (they're both OK), your biggest influencer may be whether you need auto features of any sort (Lumix only) or repeatable, dependable mechanical focus (SLRM only)
The SLR Magic is built incorrectly, and has the iris ring rotating clockwise to open the iris, rather than the standard counter-clockwise. I would find that maddening, constantly closing down the iris when I wanted to open it.
Of the two I'd prefer the Lumix for that reason alone.
However, for the same price you can get the Rokinon 24mm T1.5 Cine lens, which has a properly built iris ring.
Will the 25mm be wide enough? Do you have other lenses? I say this because in tight spaces 25mm can be a bit long to deal with. Manual focusing starts to get very "interesting" at f1.4 in those same tight spaces. You will be riding that focus wheel like a mechanical bull if you move around a lot.
Have you considered the Rokinon 12mm f2.0 or maybe the Olympus 17.5mm f1.8 lens. Harder to get tighter shots if you have to stand far away but much easier to shoot with in tight spaces.
