$2500 on a DVX for nothing....

I bought my DVX second hand from Trademe in 2009, which is basically New Zealands version of eBay, for $2500 which came with a DVX and accessories with 250 hours on the head, a broken shotgun mic (found out after and complained got no reply from seller or help from trademe) I had barely used it to be honest, and one day it wouldnt record and I got the t reel lock error and other errors on screen.

I finally managed to find a camera repair shop here that would look at it after Panasonic kindly refused to. (No warranty on it plus its a chinese import.)

I called the repair shop today after a week and they tell me oh hey hows it going it will cost you $1800 to replace the lens system or something or other and I said thats wonderful, (not) but i think i'll just pay you the $115 for the 'taking a look at it' fee.

I feel totally robbed, and stupid, that I even bothered buying something second hand online.

To think also I was warned by freinds to not buy second hand gear and get a new HD cam, but i really didnt have the money back then and was naive as hell.

Sweet, so $2500 on the camera for about 2 hours usage, with 258 hours on the heads.

My DVX is now obsolete as theres no way in hell im paying $1800 to fix when i could buy a HD Canon Hf100 for $1000 etc with warranty.

FML.

Edit-to think also that I had pretty much WON an auction before the DVX on trademe for a near new Canon XH A1 with a manfrotto tripod for $4000 and they pulled out at the last minute even with reserve met!!!!! Called trademe to complain and they said they can do that......unbeleivable....people today.

So all kiwis etc in NZ avoid this website like the plague, many scammers on there selling dodgy gear. I dont want you feeling robbed like me.

why didn't you buy from someone on this site? you could have gotten a working one for 1/2 the cost.

I was extrememly naive back then and didnt really know about DVXuser I dont think. So partly it is my fault, still, you shouldnt sell someone a camera thats faulty.

Like mcgeedigital said, live and learn really. Sigh.

Umm, have you been venting about this since it happened in 2009? If so, dont you think 2.5 years seems a bit overkill when it comes to venting over a dvx100. I understand your frustration, but you may want to consider getting over it and moving on. Heck you can buy an hv20 for 300.00 bucks, and get hd.

I made a mistake before. I actually bought the camera with 221 hours on the heads and its now at 258.

Well it stopped working not that long ago, not in 2009. Like I said I barely used it at the time.

You are right tho, I'm just bummed because I really liked the DVX and I feel i will get a HD camera next and not bother getting a DVX again.

But he's in New Zealand, that's like last year in North American time isn't it?

So it hasn't really happened here yet.

Haha spot on mate lol. I'm actually a limey but been living here for 4 years. we had a big earthquake again last night...must of been a 5.1 at least.

I've never bought any electronics used and this is why I don't plan to anytime soon

If I have $2000 and have the option to buy either a used high end camera or a brand new mid level camera I'm always going with the latter choice because I know that if it happens to be a lemon I have warranty and can always take it back

Life is the only school that first gives you the test, and THEN gives you the lesson.

On the first day of 11th grade English, Ms. F. did that to us. It counted. Not cool.

You have my empathy, OP. I recommend buying your next cam in the States and exercising the patience needed to wait for its arrival with a friend. I live in Israel and this is what I do with big ticket items. I had to wait three months before buying a replacement laptop. Makes you appreciate things a whole lot more when they don't come immediately.
