250 GB Lacie USB 2.0 for direct HVX transfer

I have had several professional shoots wih the HVX so far, and I am finding my stride in the workflow process, and I love it. Usually I bring my laptop and two Firewire drives on set. I usually do a direct connection from the HVX to a firewire Drive (using it as the host drive) and transfer the footage. Then unhook, load the firewire drive onto my powerbook to check the footage, then erase card and start shooting again. I never needed to transfer more then 15cards so far, so the direct transfer from HVX to Firewire has been working like a charm. I bring the second firewire to transfer the footage through final cut, so that way I have an orginal HVX files for my backup from the direct transfer, then the .mov through
Final Cut on the Second Firewire.

I recently found some relatively cheap USB 2.0 only drives from Lacie, and was wondering if that would work. Can the HVX transfer to USB 2.0 Drives? I just want to use the USB 2.0 as storage, then transfer the footage on the USB 2.0 through Final Cut, (converting the files to .mov) to a firewire drive for editing. Is this possible, or the HVX can only direct transfer over Firewire, not USB?

The HVX can't control a USB device. But, a USB On-The-Go can control the HVX, so you could use USB-OTG drives to copy the P2 cards.

If you have a laptop with you though, why offload to a drive first? Why not put the card in the slot and offload directly? It'd be faster, easier, and doesn't tie the camera up to do the offloading (unless, of course, you don't have a PCMCIA slot, like on an iBook or something)...

Your right Barry, I was just offloading to the drive first to have an original backup of the files, and since I still only have one 4 gig card, I would be waiting anyway.
But now that I am more confident with the offloading process, I might skip that process.
Thanks for confirming the USB device control, I knew it was too good to be true, Lacie has a new drive, dubbed the 'Lego' Drive, 250 gig for $110.
