I hve the leica 25 mm sumi. I really like it however i cant stand not having a hard focus stop. Can anyone tell me what an equivalent 35mm still camera lens would be? or if there is an equivalent
cine prime that wont break the bank?
This topic has been covered a lot in this forum, but here's a short list.
A cinematized Nikkor, or Zeiss ZF, would be the cheaper option, but note they focus in the opposite direction, & don't have as a well spaced marks, when compared to cine lenses. However a reversing gear on a follow focus can render a bit of this mute. Next up the Zeiss Compact Prime. These are all retrofocus wide-angles, & contain more elements then "Normal" primes. Above these are the cinema 35mm lenses where, price-wise, the sky-is-the-limit.
If your willing to wait a bit, an EOS with a Birger smart mount MAY be a great choice Or if you can give up on some of the cinema aspects, the Voightlander 25/0.95 m4/3 is exceptional.
Personally I'm using the Voigtlander, & impatiently awaiting the Birger.
I have a Nikkor non-AI 24mm f/2.8 that is lovely for video use. I have to say with the nikkors, look into AI or non-AI, as they have slightly longer throws compared to AIS, and especially compared to any modern still lenses. Oh yea, a 24mm f/2.8 nikkor in great shape can be EASILY picked up under $200, closer to $100. Mine was like new and only cost me $125 (i did not even bother to haggle at that price). They also make a 24mm f/2, but it is significantly more at around $500+, and has some barrel distortion, so I like the 2.8 better in this case.
so the canon FD 24 mm f 2.0 when mounted with the adapter will have almost the same field of view as the panasonic 25mm? I thought 4/3 lens equivalents were 1/2 of 35mm still lenses. So i thought a 35 mm still 12mm would be 24mm once mounted with the adapter, giving me the same F0V as a 50mm on a canon 5d?
Yes, the adapter makes NO difference on focal length or field of view. So your FF35 50mm lens would still be 50mm after using a adapter. Focal Length is Focal length, and is constant regardless of sensor size. The FOV changes between sensor sizes. The field of view of a m4/3 camera is half of a FF35mm camera. Your FF35 50mm on a m4/3 camera would have the equivalent field of view as a 25mm on a FF35 camera. Your 50mm lens on a FF35 camera would have the same FOV as a 100mm lens on a m4/3 camera. The lens is still 50mm regardless.
