24pN versus DVX pulldown

Forgive me if this has been answered 100 times. I've been searching other topics and now my brain is hurting.

I've noticed on a lot of DV films that the video look really becomes apparent as soon as slo mo is applied. What looks passably film like looks positively video in slo mo.

Does shooting 24pN add a significant film-like quality over shooting 24p on the DVX and using the pulldown method (me = newbie). This is my main question, actually, as this seems like it could be a great advantage over the DVX to attaining a film-look. Or do I misunderstand the point of 24pN?

AND, how does this apply to slo mo in camera? Does capturing 48 fps Native lend itself to more film-like slo mo when played back at 24?

Thanks.

Yes it is a great advantage, because in the 24pN mode, you're shooting film-style true overcranking. Shooting 24pN at 48fps will result in a motion signature identical to if you'd shot film at 48fps and transferred it to video at 24fps. This is a breakthrough camera in this price class because of these capabilities.

Thanks!

Thanks!

Thanks for the reply.

It also seems to me that capturing native 24 frames as opposed to using the pulldown conversion as with the DVX would enhance the film-look at normal speed also. No duped frames. A true 24 frames per second (unless you transfer to video, I guess). Hmmm. I guess that aspect would only benefit a film out?

Cheers!
