24pa, simple terms.

I know this question has been asked a million times, but I still don't get it....

When is it appropriate to shoot in 24pA? I usually just shoot in 24p and 60i for slowmo, and then edit on a 29.97 timeline.

Sometimes I'm filming a high moving object (a biker), and I feel as if there is a bit of a blur. I'm usually using shutter speed of 1/150 or 1/250... should I crank this up??

24P Advanced if you are intending on the big screen... if primarily editing 29.97 just for TV keep it simple 24P Regular.

Here's the only question you need to ask when deciding which to shoot.

Are you going to edit in 24p?

If yes, then shoot 24pA. If no, then shoot 24p.

That is the only question. Nothing else is relevant. Literally, nothing else.

Now, as to the question of WHEN you should EDIT in 24p, the answer is, whenever you're using 24p footage and want the project to be 24p. Meaning, you may be using 60i footage, but like in this case, if it's only for slo-mo, or if you intend to convert it 24p for the 24p look, then you should edit in 24p.

The only time you should edit 24p in 29.97 is if you want to preserve the 60i look of 60i footage, or if you're mixing the footage with 30p. Other than that, you should edit in 24p, regardless of what your intend your final out to be -- DVD, film, tape, TV, whatever.
