24PA in DVX100B versus SDX900 - question!

Hi!
I'm new here and am a new owner of a DVX100B. I've shot a lot of 24PA with the SDX900 camera and Pro35 system before, but I had some questions regarding the footage I've been getting from my DVX, as I am much less experienced with this camera setup.

Both in 24P Standard and 24PA modes on the DVX100B, there is a lot of motion strobe (even after converting the files to 23.98) which is not at all characteristic of the HD and SDX900 footage I've acquired before.

To see an example of the SDX900 footage I'm accustomed to, visit: http://www.hellacine.com/videos/commercials_forweb_autohigh.mov

In the footage, you will see no motion strobing, unlike the DVX's footage, which is inherently strobe-like in all settings.

I am wondering if anyone knows the difference between these two cameras that may be causing this phenomenon. The SDX900 strobed heavily in 24PA mode, but was normalized in post when converted to 23.98. I assumed that the same would be for the DVX, but I haven't seen it to be so. I haven't changed any presets on any of the cameras, so is there a difference with the shutter speed defaults of the SDX900 versus the DVX100?

Please let me know any insight you may have so I can solve this mystery and go on shooting with my new cam! Thanks!

I use both (SDX at work and DVX at home) and haven't noticed any differences. My strobing on the SDX was bad also until I started using a 1/48 shutter. If it's set higher it's more noticeable, and as you say, always looks better after pulldown is removed.

The lack of shoulder support on the DVX allows more movement, which can make the footage strobe more. But when properly supported I find the motion to be identical to the higher end cams. And as Flash said, the 1/48 shutter adds a bit of motion blur to lessen the effect.

Actually, not to throw last-minute doubt into your mind, but web delivery is one of the BEST reasons to shoot progressive, it compresses much much nicer than interlace for comptuer screens.

Definitely- web video can be delivered native 24p. 60i you're adding more frames, getting the cruddy 60i video look and gaining nothing special for web.

I heard that the SDX900 defaults to 1/48 shutter while the DVX defaults to 1/50. I tried messing with settings and still haven't found the same motion as the SDX on my DVX100. I'm quite confused by this. hmm...

And in general, the SDX900 showed much more of a motion difference in 24PA mode (versus 24p) than the DVX does. Is it the DVX lcd that's throwing me off? But it appears that in editing it's the case as well. I edit with footage from both cams often and the 24p standard mode in the SDX900 looks much better and more filmic in motion than the DVX. Any answers? Thanks!
