24pa and 29.97 wedding video

Hey guys sorry if this has been covered but I got to page 18 and didn't see the post. I shot my first wedding yesterday and I shot it in 24pa on my DVX100A. My friend wants to incorporate some of his footage as he got some great shots too. The problem is he shot in 29.97 standard. I have either Sony Vegas or Premeire Pro CS4 to edit in and my question is if I edit my footage in a 24p timeline and then render that AVI can I bring my 24pa AVI in a 29.97 timeline and use his footage to cut back and forth from? Is there an easier way to do this? Does anyone know what is better to edit on Sony or PP? Thanks for all your help you guys rock!! Aj

hey superproduceraj,

I'd like to share my 2 cents in this kind of situation. I also shoot weddings on 24P always, (before letterbox and later upreezed to widescreen, but now squeezed) and also I get that request from the couples to integrate footages from their friend shot on a cheapo 1CCD camcorder.

3 problems arose:

1. mostly, I dont like the footages coming from the their friend:angry:
- my team and I have our own way of shooting weddings

2. the footage came from a 1CCD camcorder :undecided
- obviously not better than the DVX

3. Lastly, the footage is 4:3:undecided
- my final render would in widescreen format

As of now I only have 1 DVX100A and my 2nd cam is a 3CCD GS320. I just rent another DVX if the budget is good enough. Mostly I shoot 2 cams. Timeline on PPro CS4 is 60i. During edits I used footages from my GS320 since it's 60i only on slo-mos.

Hope it helps....

What is his footage? You say it's "29.97 standard," but what does that mean? 60i (As in, "normal" live-like video)? 30p? Or 24p with standard (not advanced) pulldown?

What to do will rest on this.

Hey David,

Thanks for taking the time to answer my post. He shot in 29.97 (or i guess 60i)lower field first (I'm assuming) It's just a normal everyday camcorder. I guess my question is once I render my 24PA timeline to an AVI can I just edit in a 29.97 timeline? What is the best way to cut back and forth between the two speeds of footage?
