24p wedding footage.

Re: 24p wedding footage.

Nice stuff!!! For my taste I never liked to mix 4:3 with 16:9 in the same footage.

Good job!!!

Re: 24p wedding footage.

a feather in your cap!

Nicely edited and mixed with audio / music.

How did you capture the priest's audio? Were you patched into the house rig, or was a lav (on the groom?) picking him up? Sounded cool with the slight echo.

One more; what editing software?

Re: 24p wedding footage.

Thanks for the respect guys! I have to post more remarks about footage I've seen on here. It makes me feel bad when I can't find time to post for others. As for the Priest.. It was the lav picking him up. I use a Samson which thus far has done nothing but impress me. I use Vegas for editing and AE for the openings.

Re: 24p wedding footage.

Looks good... You may want to correct the typo in your banner, though... It reads "Octobe Productions", not "October". Lack of proofreading is a dead giveaway for non-professional websites, and that's not the kind of message you wanna send... ;)

Re: 24p wedding footage.

Hey great work! I'm really impressed with the depth of field shots you do. That water fountain shots was awesome! Where do you find the time?! During a wedding is always is so fast paced I have a hard time doing things like that!

I use samsung wireless mics too, and haven't had a problem either.. great mics! Bought mine used for $100 a piece!

Re: 24p wedding footage.

Thanks Mong! Never noticed that before.

Re: 24p wedding footage.

Thanks for the comments. As for time... well I try to arrive at the ceremony location at least 30-40 minutes before the B/G get there. That way you have time to block your shots and shoot until your heart's content.

Re: 24p wedding footage.

Nice footage. Here's a couple of things I would have done differently (just my opinion):

I avoid fast zooms like the plague and if for some reason you have to use them during shooting, edit out the actual zoom and use the closeup as the beginning of that cut. Zooms in the context you used them break the flow and there is too much contrast between shots.

I felt the editing in general was a little sluggish. You may not have had a choice in the music but I found the music in Chapter One to be a little flat and the edit probably would have benefitted greatly with a more dynamic piece accentuating some of the transitions in the piece.

Other than that, I think it looked good. I realize that there is only so much you can do at a live event like this, particularly given all the parameters associated with this genre and, because of that, I think you did a very good job.

Re: 24p wedding footage.

Great job! What accessories do you have or would you recommend for a weding pro using a dvx100a?

I have a tripod, a Samson wireless mic for the ceremony and any interviews, and a 50 watt camera mounted light with a Bescor battery belt that I actually sling over my right shoulder as opposed to wearing around my waist. Oh... 3 batteries from DVXuser.com. I'm a close up shooter never really getting more than 6-8 feet away from my subject, and I don't really do a lot of slo-mo (except for the ceremony) in post. Stick to those rules and you can shoot any wedding you want in 24p.

However, I have encountered a few churches that had such low lighting that I was forced into 60i. I've also begun to shoot more ceremonies in 60i due to the insurance factor of having enough freedom to slow footage down a great deal when needed.

Re: 24p wedding footage.

Why does lower light force you to use 60 fps over 24 fps? I thought that 24 fps means more exposure per frame than 60 fps. Can someone enlighten me?

Re: 24p wedding footage.

Great Job. I like the way you started it out especially with the red flower and how vibrant the color was.

Re: 24p wedding footage.

WMV compression does it no justice though. I watched it on my 27in HDTV with the settings on the tv set to "MOVIE" and it looks fantastic. The DVX has so many setting to tweek that I may have to go out and shoot a ton of test footage in search of the perfect look.

Re: 24p wedding footage.

Nice job. I'm curious about you filming in 24p though. I presume you give DVD copies to your customers - are you re-interlacing before giving it to them incase they don't have a progressive DVD player at home?

I know it's slightly off topic but I'm a newbie and would love a bit of guidance.
