24P vs. 24PN

Someone break these two frame modes down for me. When should you use each and what is their purpose?

Use 24pN when shooting to the P2 cards.

Use 24P when streaming out the firewire port.

to add.. shooting 24pn to your P2 cards will give you 10 minutes per card instead of 4.
