24P vs 24PA

So, I know that if you are editing on a 24P timeline, recording 24P Advanced is Barry's recommended way to go, but if I record in 24P and edit on a 24P timeline (using a non-linear system) will that yield better quality in video and audio?

So then in a 24P timeline, 24P advanced would be the way to go because of fewer bits of information, which would therefore yeild smaller filesize?

you can't use 24pn in a 24p timeline.. it is 24p with a 2:3 pulldown applied so it is running at 29.97FPS.

yeah if u shoot 24p, edit in a normal 29.97 timeline or else you'll get screwy. if you want to edit 24 frames, you need to shoot 24pA and remove the pulldown in capture

if you shoot 24p normal, you edit in the defualt 29.97 timeline. 24p normal adds frames to fit 24p normal and still look right, 24pA adds frames so they are easil removed, not so they look right when played at 29.97.

the 29.97 thing stands, but I'll get back to you on whether you edit 24pA in either a 24 frame timeline or a 23.98 timeline. Someone in the FCP forum is telling me I'm wrong on that.

If you shoot in 24PA, you will set up the capture as 29.97, and the sequence at 23.98 with a check mark in the remove the pulldown. You will always want to remove the extra frames in a 24PA capture.

The regular 24P would just be edited in 29.97.

Hope this helps,

Jan
