24p vs 24A

I asked this question before, and never got a satisfactory response, so I'll ask again:

I am not sure whether I should use 24p or 24pa mode.

Are the 24p and 24a modes on the V1 the same as they are on the DVX? If so, I suppose I should use the "a" mode as that seems to be the recommended mode on the DVX.

I read something that said for editing on a 24p timeline (with software that supports it), you should use the 24pa mode.

What are the differences/which mode is best use? I'll supposedly be using the newest version of Vegas.

Here you go...

This is directly from the Sony info site about the HVR-V1U:

"Two recordings modes can be selected depending on your editing requirements for the 24p scan.

The "24" mode should be selected when a 24p (motion) look is desired on 60i material, such as for TV program content. Recordings made in this mode can be edited as typical 60i material.

The "24A" mode should be selected when the material is intended for 24p progressive editing - such as for film productions - using a nonlinear editor compatible with this mode.* Recordings made in this mode can also be edited as typical 60i material."

Hope this helps!

It's very important not to confuse Sony's 24A with the 24pA pulldown sequence. They're not the same thing.
