24p uzzled

Ok, I know everyone is thinking "Oh no, not another 24p question!!?"

But here it is--please be kind.

I have just installed Xpro 4.3.5, no mojo. I have received some tapes from a videographer shot with the DVX100a in either 24p or 24p-advanced mode.

I want to edit the footage, add some music and titles, etc. and make a DVD and also export final version to DVCAM.

What is the best way to capture the footage to my harddrive? Do I just start a new 29.97 project and capture normally through my DSR-11, then edit as usual? Or is there some other funny business involved? I don't much care about the filmlook stuff, but I guess it would be OK if it doesn't complicate my life. I'd also like to use some clips I already have from other standard DV projects--i.e., opening sequences, music, Grafitti titles--any problem with this?

Any insights would be very helpful to this beginner!

Thanks!

Re: 24p uzzled

Unless you have a Mojo, you won't be able to output back to DV. If editing at native 24p is not a priority, then edit in a 30i project and you wi be fine. It will be exactly the same as any other mini DV format you have worked with before. The "film look" will already be part of the already shot footage since the motion was captured at 24fps and then recorded to tape with pulldown - just like a film to tape transfer.

Michael, so you are saying there is no way to ouput a native 24P project back out to DV unless you have Mojo...if I can't output to DV, what 24P output options do I have without Mojo? DVD?

Re: 24p uzzled

Yes, DVD for now. Use Sorensonc Squeeze to create 24p progressive DVD. Theh encoding process will add the 2:3 pulldown flag to the MPEG2 stream for proper display in a 30 fps Interlace monitor or progressive display on a progressive monitor (via a progressive DVD player).
