Hi

Are there any issues with slowing down footage shot on a DVX100 24p or 24pA

Thanks

Re: 24p slo mo problems

24P is the worst format to try to slow down. You'll get much better results from slowing down 60i.

The smoothest slow-motion possible is to shoot your slow-mo segments in 30P, and then play them back at 80% speed on a 24P timeline. It's frame-for-frame accurate smooth slow motion, but not very slow.

You can get super-smooth slower slow motion by shooting 60i and playing it back at 40% speed on a 24P timeline.

Using other speeds (like 75% or whatever) will cause jitter and not be smooth.

Re: 24p slo mo problems

Question for you guys. When doing slo mo you loose rez when you play back 60i @50%. On the other hand you get jumpy footage if you slow 30P down by 50%. This is well understood but...

Could you get what "60P" MIGHT look like (I know its not a regular format) if you used Twixtor on 30P footage to create inbetween frames making it 60 progressive frames? If so, can it be seen in that format under NTSC/DVD standards? If not and its forced to change to 60i do you gain anything by going thru the process v.s. shooting 60i in the first place?

But would it be possible to mix both the 30P (if ya play it back on an 80% timeline) and the 24P footage togeather without any problems ?

Re: 24p slo mo problems

Firstly I'm no editor, but I shot some footage recently for a music video @ 24speed and the editor had no trouble with slowing it down (Avid suite) we could take it down to whatever speed, ramp it, stop frame it and it looks great.

Depends on your editing program. I do it in Vegas all the time.
