Question...........

If both 24P modes in the DVX100, are converted to 29.97 in camera- why did Panasonic bother to include the "standard" one.

I dont understand what advantage the standard one has even in the video world as both are already 29.97?

Why would you not use the Advanced mode and edit in a 29.97 timeline if all you want is a video out. Is there an advantage to using the 3:2 pulldown instead of the 2:3 3:2?

Re: 24P question

the 3:2 telecine plays back smoother than the 2:3:3:2 pulldown, and is the standard for telecine from 24fps film to 29.976 video because it has the smoothest playback.
the 2:3:3:2 telecine was developed to acheive easier and cleaner extraction of he original 24fps, but becuase of it playing 2 frames, then 3 then 3 then 2.. it stutters a bit on playback until the pulldown is used, and it goes back to the smooth original 24fps.

so if someone is outputting at 29.976 (and has no need for a true 24p edit in naitive DV for filmout or progressive DVD), and wants 24p telecined to 29.976 video in the standard and smoothest way with 3:2 .. the normal 24p will do this for them in camera and allow them to edit at the intended output framerate of 29.976 with no pulldown or 24p processing required.

otherwise they would shoot 24pA, and remove the pulldown, and then edit at true 24fps, and then export using the 3:2 pulldown instead of the 2:3:3:2 for smoothest video playback... but using this mehod you always have the 24p edit to work with IN NAITIVE DV without losing the generation associated with extraction from 24PN, and you can export that 24p edit using any cadance youd like...2:3 or 2:3:3:2 for video playback ..or storage...or just save it as a true 24p quicktime for filmout.
