What's the difference between 24pa and 24p?

so when you shoot in 24p, or 24pa, you have to edit the video on a 24 timeline?

i read an article on 24p and 24pa and in it said other video could be brought into the timeline such as stockfootage and such but it only mentioned 60i footage and my question is how easily can 30p or hi8 be brought into the 23.94 timeline?

so 24p you can edit on a 29.97 timeline and have no problems... but with 24pa you have to edit on a 24 timeline?
