24p or 23.98?

I can't believe I don't know this by now but I don't. Plus I don't know if this is a DVX question or a Final Cut Pro question, but I'm starting here:

I am all set to capture some footage and I will be doing so at offline/low res. However the FCP settings have a capture rate choice between "Offline NTSC 24fps" and "Offline NTSC 24p (23.98)" The choice one makes is critical since the setting is integral to the later full-res recapture for online.

So, as this was all shot on the DVX's F5 24p setting, which FCP capture choice do I make: 24 or 23.98?

Hey one other thing, just out of curiosity, when would the "OfflineRT NTSC 24 fps" selection be appropriate? When shooting 24p advanced?

Now you're getting in over my head! I just use 23.98 since it's what DVDs are really recorded at and (like 29.97) it's adjusted for that 1/1000 of a frame that's missing in NTSC every second or whatever (honestly I don't fully understand this stuff, but if it works, why question it?)

I'm sure others will be able to answer this, though.

You can't capture to offline 24p though. For, say, 24pA you'd have to capture as DV, remove the pulldown, then use batch exporter to make offline 24p files for editing. If you capture direct to offline RT it doesn't work as it can't remove the pulldown.

If the source is video and 24p, then the correct frame rate is 23.98fps. 24fps would be for offline film source material.
