24P Mojo Question for Michael

What functionality enhances can Mojo offer me for 24P footage?

Most of my transitions that I use are real time and I can view them on the client monitor just fine and output to tape if fairly quick, so I don't know if Mojo will really benefit me...What do you think Michael?

Re: 24P Mojo Question for Michael

Besides more Inputs and Outputs (composite, component, IEEE-1394), Mojo will actually let you export a true 24P project out to tape. It's been a great addition to my workstation and I would recommend that you get one, especially if you're already using Xpress Pro.

Re: 24P Mojo Question for Michael

Well the Mojo allows for the real time effects to stay realtime when going back out as DV over FireWire. It is in this sense that it is called an accelerator. For 24p projects, it also ensures a continous 2:3 cadence for output back to DV 30i as well as all the analog I/0.

Re: 24P Mojo Question for Michael

Thanks guys. My main concern is 24P output and the ability to view video on the client monitor in real time...Doesn't the software itself without Mojo preview a lot of the effects on the client monitor already? I mainly do dissolves and color correction and that's about it...Might add a Magic Bullet preset or two also...I would assume the dissolves preview to client in real time with software only...How about Color Correction or other effects...Is Mojo required to preview these in real time on the client monitor?

Re: 24P Mojo Question for Michael

From a 24p seqeunce, you will always need a Mojo. The effects are always real time on the timeline, but the entire timeline would need to be encoded to a single DV stream back over the FireWire. This is where the Mojo comes in. Allows you to keep the Avid effects in real time and do the encoding back out the firewire while adding the 2:3 pulldown.

Non Avid effects such as Magic Bullet will not be real time in any case and will need to be rendered.

Re: 24P Mojo Question for Michael

Does the mojo offer any great improvement when working with 25p image? I.e returning to dv at 50i. What other benefits can be achieved with using a mojo in 25p?

Re: 24P Mojo Question for Michael

The improvement you will get with MOjo in a 25p environment is that all effects, color correction, etc, remain in real time when going out to the client monitor or VTR. Otherwise you will need to render before doing so without a Mojo. This is true for all versions up to v.1.6. This changes in V.2.0 where a Mojo will no longer be needed - for PAL or NTSC 24fps, 25, or 30.

Re: 24P Mojo Question for Michael

Thanks for the reply. Has the sound sync problem been documented when capturing with 25p and no Mojo? Why no need for the Mojo with 4.5.2? After reading through this Avid forum I am happier with the problems and difficulties stated, then after reading through Prem pro’s forum.

Does anyone have a link to a 25p (pal) specific forum?

Re: 24P Mojo Question for Michael

A Mojo is always an added option to allow analog input as well as real time effects back out to a client monitor and VTR. This is true for all version less than 2.0.

With version 2.0, there is a setting to allow for software DV based encoding that will allow you to output over FireWire real time effects as well as 2:3 insertion when in NTSC. In this case, the Mojo still has value as you will get more real time effects when outputting since it relieves the host proccessor of the more intense processing (thus the term accelerator).

Re: 24P Mojo Question for Michael

Nice one! All in consideration for a migration to express pro from prem. Still undecided - I have read great things from Vegas users, good things from Express pro users and then there is adobe users. Thanks again.
