i shot a video with my DVX100b: 24p - letterboxed but the problem is that when i try to capture the footage, the capture window starts few minutes later and when finally capture is on, the footage is capturated slowly and it looks like stucked. i've tried a lot of settings but no one is the right one. any suggestions? thanks!

Ok, next question is that, is it playing correctly off of our capture deck/ camera?

If it is, you need to figure out where the problem is. So in the capture window, set your capture preset to the locked FCP DV NTSC preset, press play (without actually capturing it), is the video playing correctly?

If you did the step above and its playing out on the deck correctly but not in FCP, it maybe a bad firewire. 24p on the DVX records at 29.97 DV NTSC, so that is the preset to use.

Let me rack my brain and see if i come up with anything else.

thanks. the video plays correctly in the capture deck.

i tried with old footage recorded with normal dvx settings and have the same problem so you may be right about the firewire, so i think i need a new one. it's curious because a few week ago i used that firewire and had no problem!

Have you double-checked your device control setting for your capture hardware in FCP? I find that everything usually works best when I simply select "Apple Firewire" and not one of the other Firewire control options. Don't know if that's the problem, but it sounds like there's something insanely simple afoot here if it worked just fine recently, and replacing the cable did not help.

problem solved! the solution was very simple: my external hard drive was connected by usb instead of firewire to the cpu. duh! i have to be more careful next time.
