24P is 23.97 or 29.37?

I've been having problems exporting. I was having constant interlacing. Then I realized my settings were set to 24P Advanced, and that was 23.97 fps.

I switched it off 24PA and set it to DV NTSC. This set the playback to 29.37 FPS. Now there are no interlacing issues at all?

When I shoot 24P on my DVX, is it recording at 29.37 or 23.97? Was the interlacing showing up because I was taking my 24P (29.37) and forcing it to go through at 23.97 (24PA settings?)?

Everything is recorded as 29.97, if you record in 24PA is adds a 2:3:3:2 pulldown, and this should be removed by your NLE when capturing the footage, which will give you 23.98 (technically 23.976)

This is confusing me. In my other thread you said to make sure I'm exporting to 24fps.

Now I have no clue what to do.

I'm shooting 24P. So I need my Project settings set to 29.97 (NTSC), but when I export it I drop the output down to 23.98? It doesn't let me do that.

Or do I make the Project settings 24P (23.97) and make sure that I have selected ABBCD (Repeat frame) as the interlaced method, and only select Repeat (2:3:3:2) if I'm shooting 24PA?

I am losing it man. I'm getting more and more confused as people try to explain stuff to me, as it seems all these things are contradicting each other.
Does anyone have MSN that can help me out? By the time these things get answered I've only raised more questions and confused myself even more.

hey matt, this $ is straight forward. No need to get confused and upset.

YOu shoot 24p with the panasonic
you open up your NLE(i'll use premiere to explain).
Premiere has an option as to waht you want to work with all you do is choose the Panasonic 24 option.
Capture your footage and thats it.

When you export it as .avi or .mpg whatever it exports its as 24.

The same goes for most other NLE's there will be an option right off the bat i'm sure as to what you want to work with.

Dont get stressed out, no reason for it.

In Final Cut Pro you capture at 29.97 Remove Advanced Pulldown (2:3:3:2) and it creates a 23.98 movie. You edit this in a 23.98 timeline and export as 23.98. Sorry for the confusion. That is the workflow I use.

Thank you, this is exactly what I was needed. I was getting a little bit stressed because I was reading various conflicting reports around the net and from some people that were just throwing my mind for a loop. All I needed was a good simple answer and you and infiniteloop have cleared things up. Thank you.

Now I don't see a Panasonic 24P option, simply a DV 24P. I'm assuming thats what your talking about, correct?

yes, which premiere are u using? 1.5 and 2.0 says panasonic 24p i belive, i use it daily so i guess i should know..lol. BUt yah if it says 24p its good to go, if you have any premiere/dvx questions, dont hesitate to msg me.

Thanks, I could very well end up doing that. :-)

I've got it all figured out. Just dumb little things on my part that I didn't know was going on and BAM, it's fixed.
