24p in Europe?

Hi,

This is my first post and If this question already been answered in an other thread please forgive me.

My question is concerning my DVX100b that I bought here in Sweden. It does not show options for 24p mode in F5. I cannot initialise settings for F5 either or any other scene file setting. Do you recognize these issues and how shall I go about resolving them?

Would be grateful for any help on this as I am about to shoot in a couple of days.

Sad...

Sad...

European (or any PAL) DVX100s do not have 24p. Only 50i and 25p. But 25p is extremely similar to 24p.

Thanks David!

That is sad news, even though as you say 25p is similar. I thought the 24p property was the big selling point for this model. How come they crippled it like that?

This is interesting, as I have a European GH2 and it has 24fps mode, but nor 25. As you say, 25 is very close to 24 and I'll render the footage to 25, so I would prefer it to be 25 rather than 24. I think the 24fps must be more aimed at the US market as I understand they use 30 or 60fps as opposed to Europes 25 or 50fps. For Europe, it seems a bit of a gimmick-who is actually going to transfer to 35mm? PS Relative newcomer, so please be kind in any corrections!

They didn't "cripple" it, they made it work.

The DVX is a video camera. The PAL video system cannot display 24p. It can display 25p, but not 24p, so by making it 25p they made it compatible with all your televisions, all your broadcasters, all your video recorders, all your mixers and switchers and everything else.
