24p Help!!

Wondering if anyone can help us out.

Here is the problem.

My friend shoot a feature on Mini-DV on a DVX-100 in 24p. It was later edited on a PC AVID Media Composer in a project timeline at 23.97.

They did the online on a AVID Symphony and Adrenaline where they had some pulldown and drop frame/non-drop frame problems that were later fixed. And now they have a final product on three separate exterior hard drives, ready to be layered unto 120 minutes BETA Digital tapes but the AVID or the deck doesn't want to read it.

They also want to put them unto HD CAM Sr tapes. Suggestions?

Is it as simple as creating another timeline sequence at 29.97, cut and past the project into the new sequence and render?

remember it's a feature, 90minutes, wth colour correction and some SFX lots of rendering

Love some imput!

Thanx!

You shouldn't have to convert the project to 29.97. When laying out to tape from a 23.97 project, the Avid should automatically be inserting the 3/2 pulldown into your 24P sequence, thus creating a 29.97 tape copy.

I'm assuming you are trying to lay off on a machine other than the Avid Symphony you onlined on? Unrendered Avid Symphony color correction effects won't play on a normal Media Composer. You have to render them on the Symphony first.

It sounds like you're trying to mix and match media composer versions. Modern Avids can utilize media in OMF and MXF formats. Older Avids only use OMF format. If you're trying to lay off to tape on an older Avid, you may have a problem. Can't you just use the same Symphony you onlined on?

One thing you might try is starting a new 23.97 project on the Avid you are on and then opening the sequence bin from your old online project.

Ultimately, it's kind of hard to help you without knowing more information. Which version Avids did you use for every step of your process?

How is the final product on these drives. Do you have all the media files and the project files?

The final product runs smoothly. The media files and project files are on the external drives...but when we work on the film we copy the Avid project onto the desktop for better efficiency.
The problem again is we can't seem to be able to pull-up the project from 23.97 to 29.97 when we want to export onto the beta digital tapes.
