24p from hvx200

Ok, I have searched and have not found a clear answer on what to do with 720 24p (not 24pa or 24pn) from an HVx200 in Avid Media Composer. The clips play back fine in a 59.96 project, but how do I remove the extra frames so that I can edit in a 23.976 project?
I was going to buy raylight, but it only outputs avi.'s that dont work in Avid.( I tired the trial version of raylight).
Thank you for any assistance or work flow directions.

I just open a 23.976 project and import the MXF files through the media tool. I am using Avid Xpress Pro HD, so I don't know how much a of a difference that makes?

When you are in a 23.976 project and try to import MXF. files that were shot at 24p (60p is what the camera records and flags each 24th frame) not 24pn, avid tells you that the clips are a different frame rate. Example: cannot import 59.96 footage into a 23.976 timeline.
I have also tried to open a 59.976 project and then make Qt reference files for the footage and then import the QT reference files into a 23.976 project, But then the footage in the 23.976 project starts to stutter intermitantly, like it is skipping nessesary frames.
Does anyone know of a solution? Thanks

You might also try Raylight 2.0 P2 Maker to convert 24P raylight AVIs to
24PN MXF files.

So the process is use RayMaker to remove the extra frames, then use P2 Maker to convert the 24P Raylight AVI back to MXF format.

The frames have to be removed before bringing them into a 23.976 project. This means that the format needs to be 24pN on the camera (which is really 23.976). In order to bring in 59.94 intended to be slow motion, it needs to shot in a 720p24pN on the camera in cinema mode and VFR of 60fps.

Avid products do not yet remove pulldown from file based sources unless done external to the 23.976 project.

ok. so I used raylight to create an avi. that removes the redundant frames. Then I used raylights p2 maker to convert back to MXF, but AVID is not recognizing the MXF files that were created. Does anyone have any suggestions?

You've got it mostly, but check out this thread (http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/showpost.php?p=886348&postcount=5) for the total workflow. Basically, it all depends on where in the pulldown cadence a clip began recording, and so the remarking/re-export of clips lets you reset the cadence. I've had to do this on a couple of projects, and it's a bit of a pain, but it works. One added benefit is that you're going to save 60% of the storage space because you'll now have native 24p media. Another added benefit, is that if you have a Mojo, you can open up your 720/23.976p timeline in a 480/23.976p project and view it on your client monitor. It's not HD, but at least you can see it.

Hope that works, and reply if you have any issues. Good luck!

EDIT: PS: this process goes much faster if your original clips are on a different drive from your destination drive.
