24p flickering help.

Re: 24p flickering help.

From what I gather, you're trying to show your video on a monitor. Your video was captured as 24pa which means that the 2:3:3:2 pull down was used.

I think you can solve your problem by rendering your project to tape using 2:3 pulldown instead of 2:3:3:2 .

2:3:3:2 is a special pulldown that's only real purpose is to preserve the original 24p frames so that you can render to film or 24p DVD later. It really isn't meant to be rendered and watched on tv. Use the 2:3 pulldown when you output to tape and I think your problem will be solved.

Re: 24p flickering help.

You might want to follow an object as an area of interest when panning. The classic hiollywood move is following the waiter with a tray to move from one area to another...

All the charts for pan speeds are listed in the American Cinematographer Manual. A bit pricey, but still very useful even if for video. There is a video version, but the rules of 24 frame production are much better covered in the film version.

Also, strobing difference between PAL and NTSC is the 50z versus 60Hz (fields). Since NTSC has a higher refresh rate, the eye doesn't see it as much. But PAL has better color and resolution.

NTSC requres the 2:3 pulldown for 24fps to work evenly, in PAL the transfers and playback are done at 25fps. YOu can transfer 24fps into 25fps with a 12+1 pulldown pattern, but if youy want to see bad stroning on pans, take a look at that one! The cadence bunp is 2x per second or every .5 second which is far easier to detect than the 6x a second with 2:3 pulldown into NTSC.

And I am 1/2 Frnech, so I am equally at ease between NTSC/PAL! ;)

I grew up in Nice for almost 10 years when I was a kid...
