24p editing

so i'm about to use a dvx100a for the first time (i'm incredibly excited). i want to film in 24p, but i was wondering if i needed like an hd monitor or adobe premiere pro 2.0 or anything, since it's progressive and all. can i use a regular monitor and premiere pro 1.5 to edit? what about final cut pro or imovie? i just don't want to film everything to learn that i don't have the stuff to edit it with.

i've read the entire manual thoroughly, but if you have any general tips for a first timer, they would be greatly appreciated!

thanks!

The dvx is standard def., so no HD monitor required.

I'm not positive about pp1.5 (haven't used it), but you should be fine.
Vegas is great for Panny's 24p DVX.

Premiere Pro 1.5 will edit 24p, but there's a serious bug which will produce banding if you use standard pulldown. PP 2.0 fixed this problem and handles 24p pretty well.

As Ramjet says, Vegas is best-integrated with the DVX.

If you are looking for a good field monitor, try a used Sony 8" monitor. Originally they were $1000, but used they are usually under $400.
