24p editing

Hi there,
I´m considering stretching my budget to buy a DVX100. The reason is the 24p function, but i dont understand the complications of editing such footage. Can previous versions of final cut pro handle it without significant quality loss? I´m a novice. help me.

Also, is there a more affordable camera you´d recommend that provides the 24p function?

Cheers guys

You usually just edit on a 29.97fps timeline, make everything right, then output inserting a 3-2 pulldown (if I am not mistaken). 3-2-2-3 for 24pA(if I am not mistaken)

Just shppt 24Pn and not 24P advanced and you can edit the same way you are used to without changing any settings or doing anythign different. No quality loss.

Final Cut Express Won't Work

Final Cut Express Won't Work

WHen you ask about earlier versions, not sure if you said FCP or just Final Cut, but I know that Final Cut Express will not import 24p footage properly.

A local spot that I shot in 24p was edited in FCE and there's a lot of stuttering from the footage... When I looked at the footage in FCP it looked fine, so (thankfully) it was not the shooter (me), it was the editor who caused that problem.

Ram, I think you mean regular 24P with 2:3 pulldown (not 24PN, as the HVX can do). But you're right, you should be able to edit regular 24P on any NLE in a 29.97 timeline.
