24p dvd

When sending a completed project out of FCP to a DVD, should there be any special settings, encoding wise, if it is to be a 24p dvd?

This is what I do to compress my 24p videos for a DVD. I export the project out of FCP using the file>export> quicktime movie, and just leave the settings the way they are. Then I bring it into compressor and use the MPEG2 High quality encode based upon what running time I have. I let it do it's thing and then It's all ready for me to burn.

Might be a stupid question, but do they actually make blank DVDs specifically for 24p video? Or is it just the settings you apply on the video file when exporting onto a DVD?

The DVDs themselves have nothing to do with the framerate. You can export your flick in 24p and it will show up that way on the disc. It's all a matter of how you encode the file.

If you're using FCP and DVDSP (DVD Studio Pro), you can export a quicktime reference file (just make sure in the export settings that "Make movie self contained" is unchecked) and then use that file in DVDSP to make your DVD. DVDSP will encode everything for you after you choose the right settings.

If you're not using DVDSP, you can use Compressor's presets to do the same thing, then import the DVD files into your authoring program.

Use Compressor to export and you'll be fine. It leaves the video in whatever framerate the sequence is in.
